Mamadou (AKA Magoo) - A Stunning & VERY Special Male Galgo

MAMADOU

* UPDATED FEBRUARY 2014 *

Meet Mamadou (AKA Magoo) who is a stunning and VERY special young male Galgo of aprox 25" to the shoulder and approximately one year old. He was rescued with many others from a terrible place... Hell on Earth if we are truly honest, but he is now absolutely relishing his new life with his foster Mum and family. This little boy has sadly had his ears cut off but we think you'll agree he is just beautiful!

Location: Foster home in Norfolk.
Key Points: Young, happy, needs on-going lead training, very trainable, loves other dogs of all shapes and sizes, very cuddly.

~ Personality ~
Generally: Young playful and 'puppy like' but calm, cuddly, sensitive to raised or harsh voices, confident around people, loves playing 'tuggy' and 'zoomies' with other dogs, intelligent and learns very quickly, responds immediately to a firm no, happy and ever so beautiful.
This adorable little lad 'Magoo' loves pretty much everyone and everything and is a delight to have around. He just wants to make you happy and is proving to be both very social and clever, with the playfulness and energy of a puppy but in many ways the calmness and sensitivity of an older dog so the best of both worlds.

He hasn't even been in his foster home for a month yet but has already learned to sit and give his paw for treats and settled into a chair as if he had been in a home all his life. Mamadou is an elegant gentle soul who loves nothing more than to play with humans and hounds of all shapes, sizes and ages and is just so happy he wants to shout it out loud to the whole World!

~ In the Home ~
Generally: Lovely with other dogs, will ask to go out, learning manners very quickly and very eager to please everyone. Can be left with other dogs for short periods of time, non-destructive.
Mamadou has done amazingly well in his foster home in a very short space of time. He is living with a very loving and gentle foster Mum so we are looking for that very special person, couple or family to adopt him who will continue to guide him and adore him as he has come from such a horrendous past. He will ask to go out but his new family will have to learn to watch him for signs. This gorgeous fella would be cuddled up to you in your lap all night if you would allow it. He has also been left for short periods of time with no problems whatsoever.

~ Other Animals ~
Mamadou has been brilliant with all his new foster family which is a multi dog household of different ages, shapes and sizes. He has learned to be very gentle and kind to an elderly blind Dachshund who is part of the family, although he didn't understand him at first he soon realised there was something different and now gives him gentle morning kisses and is very careful around him. Mamadou can bark when approaching new dogs but this is simply sheer delight at meeting new friends even though he has a deep bark, once he reaches them he is very happy and mannerly and so happy to make new acquaintances. He has not been cat tested but this can be arranged.

~ Out and About ~
Generally: LOVES being out and about and meeting new people, dogs and seeing new things. Needs on-going lead training.
Mamadou can pull on the lead and be quite strong at times as the poor lad has never been lead trained, so on-going training is a must as is recall training so he can eventually stretch his long legs off lead, but this must not be attempted until his new family have had adequate bonding time and in a safe place away from public roads and livestock. He adores being told how clever he is and loves his treats so training really will be great fun for his lucky adopters. He thoroughly enjoys his walks and is currently having two 45 minute walks a day but his foster Mum thinks he would be very happy to have longer! He also loves to play in the garden with the other dogs and play 'tuggy' with his rather large selection of toys. Mamadou has wet himself a couple of times in the car and we feel very much that this is stress related as he has been through so much and still worries about where he is being taken, this is being worked on by him having nice short car journeys with lovely walks at the end of it and we also have a fantastic and very experienced behaviourist who will give on-going support and encouragement. Otherwise he is very calm and quiet whilst travelling.

~ Where Can I Live ~
Mamadou would like to live with a very kind and loving family who will absolutely treasure him, also a home where he is allowed to cuddle with you on the settee or wherever you may be. He would like to live with at least one other dog for company, to play with and to continue to show him the ropes. He would also quite an active home where he will be taken for lots of nice long walks and if possible, a nice sized garden to play in. Please note we do not home dogs to households with children under the age of 8.

~ Where Am I? ~
Mamadou is currently with his foster Mum and family in Norfolk so you will need to travel to meet him and collect him from his foster home when the time comes for him to join your family.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Mamadou is neutered, vaccinated, de-flead, wormed and micro-chipped. Please be aware that a home-check will be carried out as part of the adoption agreement. Mamadou has also tested negative from all Mediterranean diseases.

If you are interested in adopting Mamadou, please contact me (Bronwen) via email: bronwen@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or you can speak to me directly by phoning: 075 000 62648.

There is an application form for adopting a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the form, as well as further information on our homing procedures, on the Adoption Page.

Thank you.

KGUK Trustee and Homing Officer

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us.
