Pet Plan Hike

Just had my renewal documents through for Jessie. She's been insured with Pet Plan only a year, i've never made a claim and yet they've put my premium up by £64! Thats a 25% increase on the previous amount!

Being a rescue, this was the first time i'd insured her and i've never made a claim so I think i'll be going with another company. Flynn is also insured with Pet Plan so I dread to think what his new premium will be (I've made a couple of sizeable claims with Flynn however so it looks like i'm trapped with his).

Anybody else had a big hike in premiums? These companies have got us all over a barrel and can seemingly charge ridiculous prices!

If anybody can recommend a company that offers similar levels to that of Pet Plan Budget i'd be grateful to know of them!

Same happened to me with one of my dogs - had made claims for the older dog and because of that they put both the older dogs and 4 years old plan to the very top of the scale. Like you I couldnt take the older dog away because of recurrent problems but I did the 4 year old - she is now with Sainsbury's - much more competitive pricing altho obviously they dont cover any ailment she has had before they took her on.

I had one of my dogs with Sainsburys but discovered that unlike some other companies who pay £x amount out per ailment per year, Sainsbury's simply did it per ailment and once your limit was reached, that was it. Thats how I understood it anyway from comparing their policy with Pet Plan's.

Might give Argos a try.

Tuns for life cover policy has just gone up from £22 to £27 a month with PP.

Some elements of the cover have changed as well, from what I could gather after a brief flick through is that eg if your dog had an op and had say hydrotherapy as part of its recovery you would pay the excess for the medical part and also now an excess on the 'complimentary'

i claimed once last year (been with them 3years).

Although cheaper I would rather go with an pet insurance company that has a proven track record for paying out. A friend of mine recently had to make a claim for her 4 year old lab, but it took over 3 months for the claim to be processed.

I guess that's why I went with Healthy Pets as it was one of the few that had a good reputation for cover and prompt payment. Perhaps worth a look?

I had that with Direct Line. Dale was insured with them as a puppy and although he had an x-ray we didn't claim. So I changed to Pet Plan. Now I'm regretting it. He's developed arthritis and because I'd been to the vet before it counts as a pre-existing condition even although they said everything was fine at the time.
Make sure you think it all through and read all the small print before you decide.

Can emphasise here. We had only claimed once for Katie in her whole 4 years and we got under £100 back. When her renewal came through they had put her monthly plan up from £21 to £36.99. Thought that was outrageous and changed her from a lifetime plan to Sainsbury's and a 12 monthly plan.

About 18 months later [and its still ongoing] she took a very bad Urinary tract problem and because she has had them before Sainsburys wont cover it, presently because of all the xrays/scans/bloodwork and urine testing the money paid out is in excess of £900. They are now talking about doing a bladder biopsy and as that will include an anaesthetic, goodness knows what that will come to.

My advice is to think carefully as well. You just dont know what is around the corner.

Very true! I learnt my lesson a few years ago

I would recommend finding a specialist pet insurance company with high cover. I am with Healthy pets and they cover me up to £7500.
