what do you think???

in the past year i have offered a pet home to dogs in rescues all over the UK, but because i have bitch that is unspayed, i am not allowed to adopt any spayed or unspayed dog or bitch!, now i can offer a very good loving and loyal home to the dog that i choose in any rescue, but they would rather put them to sleep ( this has happened twice) than offer them to me with an entire bitch in the house ( i may want to breed from my bitch in the future( my decision)
what are your thoughts on rather destroying a dog or placing it in a loving home with an entire male or bitch?, no matter what breed as the rescue dog would be neutered and would just be a family pet
i would like to get everyones input on this

I find it strange that they won't rehome a spayed bitch or dog with you as where is the problem? I know a number of people who both breed and foster/adopt rescues so perhaps you need to search rescues further a field.
I think your profile is out of date as according to that you don't own any dogs. What breed of dog do you have? My only other thought was that if you owned a cross breed and are telling rescues you might breed in the future then that would be a reason they probably wouldn't allow you to have a rescue. Just guessing though.

It is silly - I am sure breed rescues would not have the same policy ...

All rescues have different policies. If you let me know which area and what type / size of dog I will help you locate one which doesn`t have this policy.
One the other hande, if you are a breeder (and you say you are going to breed) I can understand their hesitation. Unfortunately there are some unscrupulous people who get dogs from rescues and breed them. However, asking for a neutered dog (as you have an unspayed bitch) should put their minds at rest.

I know RSPCA policy varies around the country, I was told this by some lady I spoke to a few weeks ago at Radcliffe RSPCA when I called about the St Bernards that were in the news. As I have mentioned before in other threads, another dumb policy is the lower age limit for homes. Last year there was a 3 month old Goldie retriever in rescue nearby, description was "great with kids of all ages" but when we called about her we were told our daughter was too young (she was 2 coming 3 at the time) but we were told that she came from a home with 3 kids under 5 (in rescue cos of a death apparently)

I have to agree the RSPCA seem to have as lot of silly policies which vary from centre to centre and though I know some are necessary, I feel they miss out lots of times on really good and ideal homes for some of the
dogs, because they refuse to relax these.

with the age thing, alot of the more experienced home checkers take into consideration the breed that the home is looking for, naturally gentle breeds are more likley to be allowed into homes with kids under 5 that the other more aggressive breeds, but if the dog comes from a home with kids under ago and is happy to be around kids of that age, personallly I don't see a problem with it.
