dog being sick could it be the tablets he is taking?

when i got up this morning there was sick where both dogs sleep, and when i called home from work at tea time there was more sick,
major has just been prescribed steroids (prednisalone ) to try and help with his skin cancer, he is having one twice a day, and has had 5 of them so far (he started them monday night ) he is also taking antibiotics two twice a day, could either the steroids or the antibiotics make him sick???
as we dont no which dog it is, we are just guessing its major with the tablets, so we have not give them tonight to see if theres any sick there in the morning

While most medicines are safe, bad reactions can happen with any of them. If it looks like a bad reaction to a medicine, you should get back to the vet. They can help with the problem and try a different treatment.

in my experience, dogs have thrown up after antibiotics

but not prednisilone

i, myself, am on prednisolone

i started off on 6 per day 3 weeks ago, and have had many of the side effects on the leaflet.
however, throwing up isnt one of them, and i havent had that side effect.

you pill boxes should have leaflets listing potential side effects.
have you had a look at that?

or ring your vet, he may change to a different antibiotic.

Yes Prednisilone can cause vomiting, you should cotact your Vet ASAp, as it was on of the things I was told to watch for, and if so the drug should be stopped. Ring the Vet this morning and ask their advice.

I have the Actavis Prednisolone leaflet in front of me now (I took my tab half hour ago)
Amongst the list of about 30 possible side effects (a few of which i have suffered), vomitting is not listed anywhere.

However, over the years in my career of giving antibiotics to dogs, I have encountered a few dogs being sick, and the vets hav always said that some dogs will be sick with some antibiotics, so they usually change the brand, which then usually stops the vomiting.

So my bet is its the antibiotics, but I'm still not a vet, so you should speak to them ASAP for a proper opinion.

All of these links state vomiting as a common side effect of Prednisilone, thats from the first page google search I did.

fair enough

i was just reading the leaflet

i'm on the tabs myself.

personally, i can say i've had many of the side effects warned, but vomiting or feeling nauseous have been conspicuous by their absence, all things considered.

whereas I've treated many dogs with antibiotics which the vet said may cause vomiting, and then did.

so im going on probabilities, but you never know.........

spoken to the vet and he doesnt seem to think that it is the antibiotics or steroids causing him to be sick, even though he was absolutley fine until he started taking them so he has given him some tablets to settle his stomach
so he is now on
# 1 prednisilone twice a day (steroid )
# 2 80mg trimacare tablets twice a day (ab)
# 1 zitac tablet twice a day (stomach settling)
good job he's so greedy he just eats them from your hand
think ill see how he goes over week end and if no better ask bout changing the tablets
