I am hoping its not but please get your vet to test for Autoimmune disease as soon as possible.
I have had two dogs with it and they both had ulceration that started in the mouth and spread down into thier throat. It attacks the soft tissue and is when the body has turned onto itself and attacks itself.
Not sure what other health issues your dog has but they could be linked or may not be.
Please feel free to pm me if you wish.

I would get the vet to look at it.

I don't have first hand experience but my friend has a dog who suffers from autoimmune, she was on long term steroids and got to the point where she was very ill and not expected to survive, as mad mare says the ulceration goes down the throat and often into the stomach, as a last resort my friend went to a vet who specialises in homeopathy (it took a lot of trial and error to find out what worked on her as they are all different) and thank god it worked she is now a lively 5 year old no longer on steroids, not cured but under control. Autoimmune can be triggered by adverse effect to vaccination, which is not proven in my friends dog case but coincidently happened after her first shot.

Of course it could be something else, best get checked out.

good luck, let us know how you get on.

Could he have bitten his lip? Or perhaps hurt it on a stick etc.? I do hope it isn't anything serious.
