I have no idea, but have to say that it is possible - although surely they would have had to have been taken with the owner's consent, and how many people could bear to do that?

Still, much loved horses were more or less forcibly taken in WW1 weren't they.

*smiles happily at not being included in Murf's geriatric list

If all able bodied men had to serve in the war their is no reason why the army would have thought any less of peoples pet dogs

They were not "taken" they were offered up after army appealed for dogs.

Plus, due to rationing, many people had to give up pets as there was not the spare food etc for animals.

Many people also WANTED to help the war effort.

I doubt if you would find that people were as willing today!

i know i think its terrible that people arent patriotic anymore or support our army, i have family and friends in the army so its a subject very close to me. i infact wanted to join the army, but wasnt allowed, my family were just too against it as they all know how dangerous it is, looking back on it now, it wouldnt of been suitable for me to join, doesnt me i wont support them though, if anything it makes me support them more.

TheRussians used to use dogs to blow up tanks, they would strap the bomb to the dog and train the dog to go under the tank for food (they would starve the dogs first )and then blow it up

Well I wouldn't want to donate my dogs to the army I'm afraid.
