Lab of Two Colours

My son sadly lost thier JRT age 13yrs to cancer a couple of weeks ago. They were going to wait a while before getting another dog but they hated the house being so empty and missed the walks so they decided on a Lab pup and went looking at different litters.
In one litter where they were able to meet both parents and grandparent and great grandparent there was a bitch puppy that was predomatly (sp) black with I think he said a brown patch or patches, they fell in love with her and bought her.
I am going to drive over and see them today and meet her (Lucy) so I will get some pics.
I have never seen one with another colour in its coat as well. Is it very common?

Sounds like a tanpoint, as in black & tan pattern like a Dobe. No not common but odd colours do occasionally turn up in Lab litters. It's a mutation on the K locus that's responsible for this one.

One I saw a couple years ago was tanpoint with brindle points.

Mum was a black lab and dad was a chocolate.

Looking forward to photos I can't find any on the net. There used to be a good site for Lab colours but it no longer has that page.

If you type in mismarked labradors into google it will bring up a few pages of labradors with coloured markings.

You can get "splashing" on Labs, brown splodges or markings on legs in particular.

Wow thanks for that link, some of those markings are incredible although i have to say a couple don't look like true labs but x's. I live the little yellow lab with the black stripe round his middle.
I will have to pass the link onto my son as he will be fascinated.
