SuperSnorri in 2005??

The amount of time I have spent moaning about the foibles of this old, but much-loved, Mac may be coming to an end at the finish of January 2005!

Mrs S' daughter and S.I.L. run their own company which does things with computers (I've no clear idea what, though!) and they have a nice little Mac iBook laptop (exact model not known!) which is surplus to requirements. Subject to the rules on scrapping office machinery and writing it off, it looks as though this nifty wee machine will be winging its way (literally) to Snorri Mansions, either FOC or for a mere token.

All I know about it so far is that it is Broadband enabled and "has everything" (Mrs S' daughter's words). It runs Mac OSX (which is more than this thing does) and will allow me to get BB when it manages to crawl its way to these here boondocks sometime in Summer '05 - so, sometime after that, you'll see the new, updated SuperSnorri, terror of the e-ways, leaping tall buildings with a single bound (not that there's anything up here taller than St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall).

Hmmmmm, can't wait! There's a modest chance its keyboard won't stick...........

Well, it's dual-fuel, really - the local exchange is powered by captive haggises on a treadmill, which are fed on an exclusive diet of Orkney malt whisky. In order to achieve the speed required to operate Broadband, you have to give them twice as much. At about £27 a bottle, Broadband is expensive..........

Indeed they do! Ease of use, more resistance to hacking, less likely to crash!

As long as it doesn't do what S.I.L.'s old one did - whenever you put it to "sleep" (that's "Standby" to PC-plebs ) it sat there blinking a wee light and making snoring noises!

We Mac-users have a range of little sayings about non-Mac computers, my favourite being "A PC is a Mac for an idiot"

Snorri

Hmmm, I'll have to un-learn OS 9.1 and learn OS X instead. Oh well, I had to un-learn Windows 95 to learn Mac OS 9.1 - can't be any harder - can it???????????

ROFL Snorri - knew you wouldn't take offence. Us non-urban types are good at being self-depracating about living in the sticks!

It sounds a terrible waste of a good malt though...........

Aye, well, we tried running them on Wladiwar, the Wodka from Varrington, but it made them sick and they went on strike
