I have a very old Rough Collie book (Margaret somebody or other) who advocated giving dogs chocolate ;-0

And I have old poodle books recommending biting the tails off puppies! (Closes the wound better than a knife apparently.)

I wonder if the reason the suggestions for how many meals a day to feed changed along with the type of food most dogs are fed?

My dogs get 2 meals a day. But they would be happy with 3, 4 or 5.

Mine too. They would eat as much as you put in front of them until they were sick. Then they'd eat the sick.

My two get a snack first thing ,, usually a handful of raw chicken necks. Then a good warm, home cooked meal at bedtime, usually vegetables cooked with meat and bread. ( slow cooker addict!). Collie was half starved her first five years and is a food addict and would eat herself stupid. She sings and dances as I prepare the food...
Maybe some depends on what you feed; no dry food here ever now.
