Ozzie, JRT (short-legged), DOB Sept 07

Ozzie, JRT (short-legged), DOB Sept 07

His Story: Ozzie arrived with us after a frantic call by a family who had homed him 2-3 days earlier from alcoholics. He was petrified and they couldn't get near him. Ozzie had had at least four homes previous to theirs and was involved in a Road Traffic Accident Feb 08. We discovered the top of his femur had died and was causing him a lot of pain. We removed this and he made a good recovery. Homed but marriage broke up soon after which changed the dynamics of the homing. Ozzie is now coming into foster with us weekend 12th March.

Salient points: Ozzie is a smooth haired short legged Jack. Multiple homes/names we were his 6th. Mixes well with dogs, cats, people and likes company. After the RTA he has a plate in back left leg. Our vet removed his hip joint and it is now supported successfully by ligaments which serve him well. Generally OK with visitors, but may get concerned. Ideal for multi-dog/cats household.

Advert: Ozzie has a footballer feel. He wants to be pottering about, following his family around, but can be left. He isn't too demanding, but having said that he needs a family there for his needs as he has had multiple homes and came originally to us frightened of traffic, strangers and 'in pain'. He has lived successfully for a year in circumstances which changed soon after homing and left him as an only dog metering out the hours. We are looking for a family life where he can enjoy trips in the car, walks around the park, shadowing his family in the kitchen, in the garden or sitting at your feet under the computer table.

When in pain Ozzie's mood can be down and we believe gentle pottering around will keep his back leg fluid and avoid stiffness and pain. Ozzie is a young dog and has a lovely spirit of adventure and he adores outings. Ozzie definitely has some ghosts from his past which surface when he is down, but in a family where there is a good balance between dog activities, 'play and walks' with domestication this will give him the opportunity to 'actively watch' and receive affection on his terms. Ozzie the footballer is more of a 'goalie' player, an avid follower and fan. But love sport he does.

"Please note that this dog is currently in kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found".

An update from Ozzie's fosterer ...

"I shall bore you senseless with some pics now...

As you can see, Ozzie was not a happy puppy when he arrived!

So this had to be changed!!! The following are pics of him out on his walk today...

This is Ozzie's route for now till he gets a bit stronger and able to do longer walks. I like to vary the walk so that I can assess in different situations. We start with the grassy path bit of the walk...

Then we go into the woods to check how he is distracted by squirrels/deer/birds...he passed by the way. No interest

Now what is this...? Something very suspicious that was not here yesterday...

A suspicious random fallen branch...this must be investigated thoroughly...

Still not happy with his discovery...

So he runs ahead to let everyone know about it...

Come OOOOON Emma...TOOOO slow!!!!!

And the field part that we need to work on...he runs in little wonky circles all round me just keeping out of reach!
