Iris ~ Gentle Girl Will Blossom in a Home - 2yo White/Black Greyhound

IRIS

**UPDATED: JUNE 2013**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Iris would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home.
Key Points: Quiet, calm, affectionate and cuddly once she knows you, walks to heel, ok traveller, good with the other dogs she has met.

Beautiful Iris is a 2 year old greyhound girl who was discarded from the racing world when she wasn’t fast enough to keep pace. She is now looking for a loving family to call her own. Iris is a pretty lady with a lovely white and black splotched coat that will be truly splendid once her thick kennel coat is brushed out. Iris is quite large for a girly hound and quite striking.

~ Personality ~
Generally: Quietly loving, bit withdrawn at first, needs some TLC to come out of herself.
Iris is a sweet lady with a delicate, calm personality. She can be a bit shy and withdrawn first but give her some yummy treats and quiet TLC and she soon comes out of herself. This is a dog who will completely blossom once in a home environment and we can't wait to see her out of kennels. Somewhere in there is a cheeky little minx dying to play with toys and roach on sofas.

~ In the Home ~
Generally: Not yet in a home.
Iris has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.

~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Good with the other dogs she has met, not introduced to small breeds or cats yet.
Iris is well behaved with the other dogs n the kennels. She has not been tested with small dogs or cats but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required.

~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks to heel, attentive, biddable, polite and mannerly.
Iris walks well on the lead and is attentive to her walker. Like most greyhounds, Iris will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~
Iris is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Iris is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Iris, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page or Fostering Page .

Thank you.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us.
