Hi guys,
thanks for your replys. All we were told about him was that he belonged to a family, that the man was sent to prison and his wife couldn't cope with looking after the dog and the children, so she asked Battersea to re-home him. Our vet said that there was no way of finding out if he had bitten anyone before, and that because there had been no reason for him to bite and no warning we wouldnt know if he was going to do it again or when he would do it again. As i said my son was only 16 months at the time. What chance would a 16 month old child have against an English Mastiff, if he ever got to him?! He was never left alone with my son, and i have gates to stop the dogs going in the lounge and upstairs, but it would only take a split second and i know a baby gate wouldn't have stopped him. I would never have a dog PTS for no reason, i work for an animal rescue, and i will work with a dog and try everything i can! But when you are in that sort of situation you have no choice and i know i did the right thing.
