Flea Treatment problem

A couple of times a year my dog gets an irritated face and scratches all the fur off her muzzle. The vet thought it was exema.

I have realized this happens about a week after I use Frontline her.

As I will not be using it again I need a really good flea treatment. She seems to be one of those dogs that always has a flea or 2 knocking about (even using Frontline) so, I constantly have to spray.

I have never had a dog that had fleas before so, this is a bit inconvenient. I put garlic in her food, I spray with bedding flea spray and I occasionally bathe her using flea shampoo. She still has fleas. Not loads. Just one or two but, I would love to totally get rid of them.

Any suggestions??

Advocate could be a good alternative to use. Does fleas as well as most of the worm groupsw (including lungworm), you'd just need to use a wormer to treat for tapeworm

I was always told not to use any flea shampoos at the same time as dog was treated with Frontline. And that some over the counter flea shampoos can make the dog feel quite ill. And to use a very mild shampoo if the dog needed bathing often.

My last dog used to get a 'reaction' to the Frontline for a day or so after I administered it but it calmed down after that. She had flea allergy contact dermatitis probs so it was important to keep her flea free.

The usual advice given if the dog is overrun with fleas is to check the house and bedding - and I've been told in the past to use the Frontline every two weeks instead of four to make sure.

She is not overrun. Just one or two that I can't seem to totally shift.

I only frontlined a couple of times a year. Don't like the stuff at all.

I never bathe within 3 months of applying flea treatment as I know it's not sfae.

I will get some advocate and use that at the end of September.

Thanks for your help. Don't like using chemicals on my dog but, sometimes needs must.

In this area a lot of people found that Frontline no longer worked. And changed to Advocate.
