What I doubt is that a dog would blame an absent owner for his fright.

I agree and normally I would say dogs don't bear grudges and tbh the ear canal is linked to the nose and throat and I think the drops trickle down her throat and taste disgusting, but the way she reacts is comical as in that moment she "hates" me.
