Can you freeze raw bones?

Like raw lamb bones from the butchers? I don't live very close to a decrnt butcher so was just wondering if it was possiboe to buy a few at a time to save travel costs.

I would defrost thoroughly before feeding.

Thanks!

Yes, it's no problem freezing them. All mine go in the freezer and the dogs actually quite like them when they're not fully defrosted. I think all raw feeders have a very large freezer! I believe freezing them also destroys a certain bacteria but I'm not sure which one, someone will probably come along to tell you a bit more.

I also give a marrowbone or knucklebone straight out of the freezer. Dogs don't seem to mind and it takes them just that bit longer to get the marrow out. I have also sometimes let them have the bone for an hour or so then wrapped it and put it back in the freezer for another day.

Thanks! I think my bones wont be too huge.....I hope.....theyre only for a JRT!

Is it better to give bones whole.....or could some be chopped in half to be a more appropriate size for a smaller breed dog?

Yes you can and I too often in the Summer, put bones back in freezer.

Beware of making bones TOO small, this is when dogs can swallow chunks,

I was thinking of longer ones being chopped in half, so not too small, but not so long that a short JRT is struggling to carry it around!

Not sure there's any bone too big for a JRT to carry around
Mine have bones straight from the freezer.
