Well, i'm a cruel owner!
Teagan gets a couple of walks a week, and she certainly won't walk if it's already raining!
I can't force an 8 stone dog to go outside! She won't even go to the toilet for a wee in the garden if it's raining (has been known to hold it in for a couple of days).
She gets excited when I put her lead on, but refuses to go out of the door - even for food!
If it starts raining whilst we're out, she doesnt mind that!

Both mine love getting dirty, Betty is walking around now looking like she has just rolled in some mud, and Brinley is as happy as a pig in ........... if hes sitting in the middle of a muddy puddle.

Mine don't mind the rain at all and I have never had a dog who refused to go out in any weather. Thank goodness! I think it would drive me mad if I couldn't get out for my daily walkies

I don't mind so much.... it was so windy at the weekend that I got physically blown over in my own garden!

Plus, once you've spent 40 minutes trying to herd ducks into their house, you want to be on the sofa!!

What I do not think is fair is almost looking down upon or criticising a situation or lifestyle which one can only observe via what they are told on the net. I read many posts about the way other members keep their dogs etc etc which make me raise an eyebrow as personally i'd disagree, but I feel it not my place to pry beyond the realms of how personal a forum should get
But again, just my opinion which Im entitled too. Just as others are theres, that I should drag a dog out who will scream her head off and cling to the ground when offlead, and run home if I let her off..in the rain. However, forcing a dog to do anything is not for me. Thanks
Indeed you are Luke, but so am and I and I still don't believe there was anything in that post which was patronising, whether you have PM back up or not, is irrelevant for me.

I have a friend who took on an ex-breeding (puppy farm) shtzu bitch who had never been out of her pen. She was terrified of the outside world. Over the last 2 years my friend has coaxed her, at her own pace, a few steps at a time and she now has a run round on farmland. She still finds some places too difficult, but my friend is happy to go slowly and is delighted to see her little dog being a `normal` dog after all her suffering.
She wasn`t dragged screaming. I would imagine if you have to drag your dog anywhere you need to look at how you train, and at your relationship with your dog.
I think this is about more than worrying about dogs going out in the rain or cold. I think it`s about having a well-socialised dog that can meet new people and situations calmly. I don`t see how that can possibly happen if the dog has never been out.

Have any members actually said their dogs never ever go out ? What we are saying is we don't necessarily feel they need to be walked every day. Or we have dogs who are not comfortable out doors.

What posters have said is we should all walk our dogs whether they enjoy it or not and if we don't we should rehome them despite the dogs being perfectly happy.
