Gabby ~ Gentle Quiet Lady - 4yo Black Greyhound

GABBY

Gabby is a 4 year old female greyhound. She has a black coat with some silvering around her muzzle and the most gorgeous sticky-up ears!

Gabby is a gentle, quiet soul and will make a marvellous companion for the right person. She enjoys getting attention, but isn't very forward with strangers and can appear a bit reserved at first. Once she knows you, however, she is a different girl and her sweet character peeks through. We know that she will come out of her shell more once she settles in to her forever home and gets used to all the cuddles.

Gabby has not been tested with small dogs yet, but this can be done prior to adoption if needed. She is not cat friendly. She has sadly not been outside of a kennel environment yet, so a settling in period will be needed when she first goes to her new home. She walks nicely on the lead and travels well.

Dear Gabby is currently in Norfolk, UK. She is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This lovely, gentle girl has loads of potential and will make a beautiful member of the right family.

**UPDATE: JUNE 2010**

Gabby has luckily been moved to a foster home in Norfolk now, where she is getting to experience home comforts for the very first time. Her fosterers describe Gabby as a really lovely girl who is easy to have around the house. She is just about housetrained now, and is non-destructive in the home.

**UPDATE: JULY 2010**

Gabby is doing very well in her foster home and as you can see is definitely making herself at home!

She is now completely housetrained, well behaved in the home and is ok to be left with another dog for company. She is also non-destructive, quiet and clean at night and is a good traveller.

Gabby is learning to relax and enjoy life, and now that she has discovered what toys are all about she enjoys goofing around the garden with her squeaky ball.

Like most greyhounds, Gabby does not need a huge amount of exercise. She is content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

**UPDATE: AUGUST 2010**

Gabby is very well settled in the home environment now and is a very easy dog to look after. She is quiet, calm, friendly and polite around the home and when meeting people. She also likes to collect her fosterer’s shoes and pillows and piles them up in her bed for ‘safe keeping’! She does not chew them though and is non-destructive in the home.

Gabby is fine to be left in the company of another dog, and her fosterer is working with her to get her used to being left completely alone. So far she can be left up to an hour with no problem.

Gabby’s only real issue is her reaction to small dogs. Due to her many years spent in kennels seeing only greyhounds, she is still getting used to seeing dogs in other shapes and sizes, and right now thinks small terriers and toy breeds are rabbits to be chased! Because of this she does need to be muzzled when out in areas with other dogs. This problem is being worked on in her foster home and she is already showing an improvement.

Gabby is currently in Norfolk, UK where she waits to be adopted. She is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This lovely, gentle girl has loads of potential and will make a beautiful member of the right family.
