Are dog allergies forever?

My 1 yr old niece adores dogs but it turns out she is allergic to them we are all gutted It appears that it's the slobber she's allergic to (she's fine until my boy had a cheeky lick of her face). Her eyes go all puffy and face goes all red and has to take piriton to fix it.

Could she grow out of it?

If she allergic to horses as we'll am sending her back!

No.
There are shots for it.

You can get shots for it. which start out as a lot of shot a year and it steps down after 3 or 4 years you get one every 6 month to a year.

licking is odd though as it is normally the dandruff.
Are you sure it is not something the dog ate?

That's interesting! No it's not just my dog. Friends of my brother have 2 one an oodle of some description and she's the same with them. She was fine with mine till the lick! He couldn't help himself!

There is a skin test they do, it would tell if it is the dogs, or something that might be in dog food.

Either way I would advise seeing a doctor for it and having the tests done.

Thanks lost. I'll let them know. They are desperate to get a dog and had resigned themselves to being pet free. Which would be criminal

Usually allergies are for life. I have many. And you can become allergic to something you were not allergic to before. Also you can test positive and have no symptoms. Desensitizing does work but can be iffy as to how well and how long it will work. An allergy to dog saliva is so rare. I wouldn't be too quick to pin her symptoms on that.
