took the boys on a pheasant shoot today

well today we decided to see what the boys would be like on a pheasant shoot they were brilliant i know other breeds of dogs are used for this but we thought we would give them a go and boy they were excellent they both stood waiting for the bird to drop when the whistle was blown for all clear they were of like a bat out of hell they both came back with the birds in there mouth so chuffed with themselfes and dropped it at our feet even the game keeper was pleased he said hes never seen collies retrieve a bird so brilliantly and this was there first time,i didnt take my camera with me which was a bit of a bum would love to of got some pics but im hoping to go again and this time remember my camera took some pics of the boys home with the birds so i will put them up later on

Well done to the boys Glad they impressed the game keeper. It sounds like you all really enjoyed it. It must have been interesting to try something different with them!

aww thank you brandiesnaps it was brilliant and the boys really enjoyed being out amongst all the other dogs that were there i didnt think they would do it but they even impressed me and beings it was there first time well a wave of excitment run through me i didnt know if to laugh cheer or cry ive been trying different things out with the boys to see what they like and they both liked this may be its just a one of but who knows im just so proud of them

Well done the boys! Would of loved to have seen the pics, its great when other breeds get stuck in to what is supposed to be anothers job, great stuff!

we have lurcher who retrieves snipe & wodcock on our smal rough shoot & it always amazes people when they come out for the 1st time with their expensive pro-trained lab & then see our rough old lurcher doing perfect retrieves to hand without a feather out of place in the soft mouths!!!
