Police dog hurt during riots in London

A met police dog is recovery after been injuried during the London riots last week.

Obi, a three year old GSD suffered a fractured skull just above his left eye sockett.

PC Wells, owner of Obi, stated rioters pelted him and Obi with bottles, bricks, street furniture and petrol bombs.

PC Wells checked the dog and he appered okay so they patrolled the streets for a further two hours.

However, he noticed blood coming out of Obi's left nostril and he seemed lethargic so sort vertinary assistance where he was diagnosed with a fractured skull.

PC Wells stated "It was very emotional to see him lying injured in the vets."

The officer futher stated that there were 8 dogs on duty that night, of which all suffered various injuries including cuts their pads from broken glass and even broken teeth.

It's bad enough that innocent humans, including police, get hurt - but for police dogs to be attacked is just absolutely disgusting, disgraceful and diabolical. I hope poor Obi makes a full recovery. It could never happen of course, but it wouldn't be great to allow Obi to wreak revenge on these vicious thugs. Lock them in a room with a load of police dogs and no way of escape - the cowards would die of fright hopefully.

shame the poor dog was left 'several hours' before vet attention was seeked. - The dog was hit on the head with a brick, it can take a while for signs to show, and then it could be to late.

They should not use the dogs or horses, they should use guns.

Yep that would be a good idea so as well as police dogs getting hurt they and officers, horses and innocent people could be shot.

I said they should NOT use horses. Or dogs. Innocent, decent people would not be rioting so they would not get hurt.

Ah, so police or innocent people/animals never get hit by a ricocheting bullet then?

If you're not there you can't get hit.

I have a terrible urge to say "May the (Metropolitan Police) Force be with you Obi"

But the police are there........

Also what happens to people in their houses? Are they to be evacuated before the bullets rain down?

If so, how and when?

If not, how will the safety of those inside their homes be assured?

If you cannot assure their safety will you still be happy to use bullets?

If so, do you believe that collateral damage is an acceptable fallout from this choice?
