Then and now......

Inspired (if that's the word!) by Bon's post "Before and after".

Take one 2-month-old puppy

and add 9 years -

One Kali toerag!

alternatively, take another 2-month-old puppy

and add 5 years -

getting one Snorri toerag!

So that's where all the dog-food went.........

'Tis the tag I used for AOL chatrooms when I used to use them (no more!). It means "Fear of the Priest is the beginning of Wisdom"

The other one I used to use was "Ecce Sacerdos magnus" - "Behold the great Priest"

Dog "Snorri the Priest" was named after a character who turns up in a few of the old Icelandic sagas - he was a real person, about 1000 years ago. He was a "priest" in that he owned a temple to Frey and collected the temple taxes. He was capable of being a very naughty boy, though, which is what the name "Snorri" means.

He is the subject of "Eyrbyggja Saga", where (in the Penguin paperback translation) he is described thus:

"Snorri was a shrewd man, with great foresight, a long memory, and a taste for vengeance."

When we got Snorri-dog, we named him on the presumption that all BC puppies are four-legged terrorists!

Both my dogs have Norse names (five words each!) because 1) Orkney used to be part of Denmark/Norway and 2) there aren't all that many dogs called Snorri or Kali!

Rognvaldr Kali Kolsson was Earl of Orkney from c1119 - 1157 AD
Snorri the Priest was Chieftain of the Hvamm district of Iceland, living 963 - 1036 AD

Now, that was far more pedantic than you expected, wasn't it?

Snorri
