my dog is growling at people (started just a month ago - advice?)

hi my samoyed is 14 months and has been well socalises we have compleated an 8 week basic traing course and up untill about a month ago had no problems at all.
he has never been hit and we try and use kind methods to train him but we went away to a festival and over the weekend he got lots of fuss and loves of lots of poeple.
he seemed fine and looked to be enjoying it but on the sunday evening he growled at a man we know i was near but not near enought to ask him so stop and the man ignored storms growl and kept fussing his head so storm snaped at him.
i thought that it was because he had been fussed to much over the weekend, but since we have come home he has done it to two of my kids, and a couple of strangers. just growled not snapped i have just said ahh ahh and moved him away for a little bit but im not sure what else i should do if anything i know growling is better than just biteing with no warning but i do want to be able to take him places and not worry.
we have been giving anyone who wants to fuss him a treat to give storm to try and get him to see people in a good light but im not sure if that the right thing to do any advice please.
love colette

ps he doesnt do it to every one just the odd person we met on our walks.

It could be any number of things, including just feeling off-colour. This seems quite likely, given it's sudden emergence.

If the dog isn't feeling particularly well then he's doing all that he can do to ensure that he's just left alone to recover a bit -- growling and keeping people away.

I think I'd just give him some space for a couple of days to see if things improve.

Hi colette there could be a number of reasons for your dogs sudden aggression, however it is not a good idea to give advice for such a problem on a forum.

From what you say your dog sounds well socialised, if this behaviour started suddenly a month ago the very first thing I would do is to check your dog over from head to foot gently going over its body with your hands, look into the mouth and ears, are there any areas that appear painful to the touch.

I think you need to take great care if you have children, I would see the vet for a health check/tests , he should also be able to advise you about consulting a behaviourist in your area.
