Vet Fee's

Just wondered what most people pay for a consultation? Took max to vet last night as he has had a bit of a cough. Wish I hadnt bothered as he hasnt done it since! Typical. But I wanted to make sure it was nothing serious. Well hubby took him and he said the vet hardly did anything had a quick listen to his chest and took his temp and told hubby to just keep an eye on him and it was probably nothing. Charged him £32. I think this is a bit excessive. I used to pay £20 for a vet to come out to my horse. Granted this was 10 years ago but even so. Am I just being naieve do you all pay similar prices for a mere consultation? Or does Max need a paper round?

My vets dont charge for a consultation if the dog doesnt require any treatment so really advice and having the dog weighed/checked over is free however if the dog does require treatment there is a charge of £9 consultation fee on top.

Sounds like ours are actually quite good when I see what others are paying.

We pay around £15 for a consultation at our vets.

When I wanted a second opinion on Star once we went to another vet who charged only £7 for a minor consultation.

I have found that lots of things tend to be cheaper up our neck of the woods for some reason. I have a friend who stays in the South East and he payed about £60 more for a bitch spey than I did when I had Kip done.

Carole do you find this too?

Hi Laura, it seems to be cheaper up here. I only paid around £90 for Star to be speyed and that included painkillers and 3 post op checks and yet I have heard people saying they have paid nearly £200 for the same op.

Maybe we have a lower cost of living up here.
