A dog cannot be a carrier of the parvovirus, but if a dog has had parvo and recovers it will have very high immunity to the disease.
I am not sure if annual vaccination confers 100% protection against the disease.

If the mum has had it, I`m amazed the breeder is selling the pups. Parvo endures in the ground for years, so unless she`s moved house it`ll be endemic.

So if she has had parvovirus in the past the breeding is irrisponsible?
My friend has only had the pup four days and is at the emergency vets yet again =[

I don't think that parvo remains in the ground for years - a year is feasible and if parvo has been a problem on the breeder's premises within a year then it may have still been there when the pup was born. It is also possible it could have been "brought in" from outside by visitors or dogs going onto the premises. Has the breeder actually confirmed that the mother is infected with parvo, or has she said she has had parvo on her premises? Is the breeder prepared to take any responsibility for the infection or not and are any other puppies in the litter affected?

The breeder just said they pups can catch it from mum not that she ever had it. But the other pups are okay.
The vet said the pup has had the virus for 7+ days my friend has had the dog for four. Poor little mite been pts now =[

If the pup has confirmed Parvo (must be confirmed by the vet) then there's only two possible causes.

The main one is that the pup was infected at the breeder's. Most infections and viruses take 10-14 days to incubate, so if the puppy became ill within this time-frame then it has most likely taken an infection from the premises and probably the stress of going to a new home has brought it on. This is why some insurance policies do not cover for the first 14 days.

The other possibility is the puppy picked it up after going to its home. Again, 10-14 days needed for the virus to take hold.

How old was the puppy when they took it home, and how soon did any symptoms begin?
