Christmas pagan practice or myth

Since we are in the season to be so called merry and happy and to love thy neighbor have you ever given a thought to where Christmas has come from?

Did you know that the words Christmas, holly wreath, mistletoe, Rudolph, Santa Claus and Christmas tree do not appear anywhere in the Bible.

Also each year, articles appear in thousands of publications at Christmas time, cheerfully admitting that the true origins of the celebration are wholly pagan, not Christian. Such articles admit that Christ was probably born several months earlier than December 25th; admit the pagan origin of the Christmas tree, "Santa Claus," mistletoe, holly wreaths, Yule logs, and the exchanging of gifts.

Christ was not born on or anywhere near the 25th of December. The Bible says, "And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. There is virtual unanimity among some of the most well-known commentators on this point: Barnes, Doddridge, Lightfoot, Joseph Scaliger, and Jennings, who wrote Jewish Antiquities all agree that December 25th could not have been Christ's date of birth.

If you also do research into this subject you will find that not one of Jesus’ disciples ever celebrated his birthday (Christmas Day) don't you find this abit strange cause I do just more evidence that Christmas has been made up and doesn’t or ever exist in it's present form you can research loads of stuff on this taking each bit in turn to find that it all does all steam from pagan believes and rituals.

Yes Mr L, you are quite right in that there were pagan rituals at this time pricipaly around the winter solstice 20/21 December and much of Christmas as we know it was introduced in Victorian times by Prince Albert based on Germanic custom. But in the depths of winter when there is little to be cheerful about it is good to have something to bring a bit of fun into our dreary lives and we can all take from Christmas what we will be we Christian or other. So have a lovely Christmas Mr. Leo :smt008 sorry don't do mistletoe cos its pagan

I am with Katy far too deep, I just take Xmas as I find it I am not religious but I just celebrate the day like everybody else I cant say that on Xmas I actually sit and think of Baby Jesus or how it came about, more thinking of when dinner will be ready or where my next drink will come from regardless of how it came about its a good excuse for a celebration and for that I will always be grateful Interesting read though.
