Six month old male Alaskan Malamute , Marley ./

ello, my name is Marley,

I am a six month old male Alaskan Malamute. I arrived at The Mayhew because my owner could no longer afford to look after me.

I am an active and fun-loving pup. When I first arrived I was suffering from a severe bacterial skin infection but I am now fully recovered and my fur is starting to grow back to its full length. I’m a friendly boy who gets along well with strangers and other dogs. I’m also very affectionate and I like to snuggle up next to people for affection. I’m a playful boy but I can become over excited and possessive of my toys, so sensible playtime is advised. I also don’t like to be disturbed when I’m eating and I don’t like to be man-handled. I still have plenty of things to learn so I will need plenty of time and dedication from my new owners to teach me all the basics and perfect my doggy manners.

I am now looking for a forever home with an experienced owner who has researched my breed type. They will need to have, as an adult, independently owned large breed dogs before and have plenty of time on their hands to train and socialise me properly so that I develop in to a well rounded adult dog. I’m would happily live with sensible children from sixteen years of age and upwards but no visiting young children please. I can also live with another grown up dog providing they have been well trained and will be a good role model for me. I will need a home where there is somebody at home for most of the day. My new owners will be expected to continue my training, take me to training classes and provide me with two gentle, thirty minute, off lead socialisation outings per day whilst I’m still young, building up to a minimum of one to two hours of off lead exercise every day once I’m fully grown. If you’re interested in offering me a home you will need to be fully prepared for the hard work and long-term commitment involved in caring for a dog, you will be taking on a fifteen year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.

I hope to see you soon

Marley x

Off lead socialisation daily .... Potential recipe for disaster with young Mally presumably badly bred ..

I wouldn't want to meet him when out with mine ..

1-2 hours off lead when adult ?... I wish these people would be prepared to take advice

I do like Malamutes. Bit inconvenient to send him to Australia, though...

Muddiwarx: Why would you not want to socialize it daily? It looks quite well behaved in the video with the other dogs?

I've got no experience with the breed, so that's why I'm asking.

Is this the same pup you posted about with it's siblings a while back Murf?
His fur still looks bad poor pup, Great potential but think he needs a seriously better diet in his forever home

What a shame - I could offer him the perfect home, but there is no room at our inn with 2 large wolves! Had we not got Ben, Tai would have been the perfect role model for him.

Marley sounds EXACTLY like my Ben in character, and even has a look about him of Ben. Muddiwarx is the Mal expert, but to me he does not look pure Mal, but that is of no matter. I am so tempted but it is out of the question.

Northern breeds thrive on raw food, BARF or prey model. All my mal crosses have been unable to tolerate kibble or commercial dog food, so anyone wanting to adopt Marley should be prepared to go raw if at all possible.
