Hi Cooper

Just thought I would share my experience with you - I have a 4 yr old male staff called Bruno - we rehomed him from Scottish staffie rescue at 1 1/2 yrs - he is majorly dog aggresive - hates anything with fur or feathers that move. his previous owners were goingf tohave him put to sllep for it - but he was saved by the rescue. Away from animals he is the cutest, well behaved great with kids and other adults and is nothing like how he is with other dogs. It has taken 2 1/2 years but we now walk him with my friends bitch mongrel who is about 8 - he loves her - follows her everywhere - she hates him growls and snaps at him all the time and he doesnt retalitate at all ( think he is in lurve with her LOL )

It is never easy but the fact that ur dog is great with people, counts far more than if he isnt great withother dogs - alot of male staffs arent. We are hoping that Bruno will eventually chill out a bit more - he now doesnt bark and growl or try to bite puppies we see - as I think he realises they arent gong to harm him. It has taken a long time to get to this stage and yes its difficult when you see all the other dog owners in the park letting their dogs play with each other and we are having to keep our distance in case Bruno decides he would like to have one for breakfast. I can put up with that as I know how much of a sweetie he is with us and people so doesnt bother me so much.

If you can persevere with him as you will find the more socialising you do with other dogs the more he will realise its ok to behave !!

We still can only walk him with my friends dog and I think part of that is that my whole body language and tone of voice is different around him when we are with someone we know rather than when I am screaming at another owner to get thier dog on a lead before bruno goes in for a nibble !!!

good luck and I hope that you manage to get somewhere for him or carry on doing what you are doing !!!

dani

I agree with the above post, but should you decide to go ahead with rehoming him, please try and get in touch with your nearest SBT welfare contact. There are many people on the net and not on the net who will present themselves as an ideal home, but for this breed in particular you need to be extra careful. The fact that he is dog aggressive and that's been publicised will also be a huge risk, and a very strong lure for those wanting to get hold of him for the wrong reasons - people that might come across as amazing owners. With the support of SBT welfare/rescue you'll be able to minimise that risk, and most breed rescues don't use kennels but use foster homes or rehome directly, so you don't have to worry about him ending up in kennels. Wishing you the very best of luck whatever you decide
