Elsie - GSD
Elsie is an one-year-old, female German Shepherd, who came to The Mayhew as a stray on New Years Day. We do not have a lot of information about her and do not know whether she is toilet-trained or how she copes with being left alone. When she came in it was clear that she had never been on a lead before, but she is learning and is getting used to traffic. At the moment, she is extremely nervous. She will shy away from strangers and hide behind your legs, but once she has built a bond with you she falls head over heels in love and greets you with such joy!
Elsie is an extremely affectionate and sweet-natured dog, who is a lively and active. She will need one to two hour of off-lead exercise every day and should wear a 100ft long line until her confidence improves. She is good with teenagers but we don't know how she would respond to younger children, so we would prefer to find an all-adult family for her. She is good with other dogs of the same size but is yet to be tested with smaller breeds. She loves her treats, especially pigs ears and roast dinners. But most of all she craves cuddles and will nuzzle your arm to make you stroke her.
Elsie is looking for a loving new home, with someone who has owned German Shepherds or nervous dogs before. She will need plenty of time and encouragement to come out of her shell, and lots of love. She would ideally suit a stimulating but sensible household. She would excel in both obedience and/or agility training. Her new guardians will be taking on a fourteen-year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.
