Black faeces, particularly if also sticky and tarry can indicate that the dog is digesting blood.

It could be dietary, or could indicate stomach bleeding, such as from stomach ulcers.

Have you changed the diet recently?

Is it only black overnight?

I would have a word with your vet and take a sample to be on the safe side.

You say you haven't changed the diet but could the dog be scavenging on top of what you feed him?

Would still check it out with the vet though.

If there has been a sudden change in faecal colour it is logical to assume either a different substance is being digested, either produced internally such as bleeding, or picked up externally.

Or the dog is processing its standard diet differently for some reason.

Black poos are normally something to worry about. However, mine do them after -

a: eating sheep poo

b: after eating soil

Hope its one of the above !

.... and eating a lot of grass may turn the colour dark, and definitely eating spinach will, not forgetting those charcoal bonio's (I've been caught out with that one!).

As Tass has said, I'd be inclined to take a sample of one of these into the vets for an examination, coz black poo is not good, it can point to bleeding in the upper digestory tract. Not saying it IS, just saying it CAN! Good luck, I'd be a tad worried if it were mine.
