Blood in my dog's diarrhea

Hi, my Border Terrier has recently started with diarrhea and now has some traces of what I think is blood in the stools.

How serious is this and what action do I need to take, and how soon?

Many thanks for any advice! x

To be honest if you are worried you would be best to phone the vet.

I might do one thing with my own dogs but I can see how they are never good to diagnose via internet IMO.

Is it bright red blood or dark red/brown? The former can often indicate the dog has just torn a blood vessel, common if it was straining to go to the toilet. If it is darker looking then this can indicate a bleed further up the digestive system and it is very important to get the dog to a vet ASAP. I wouldn't say ignore it completely though even if it's right red but keep a close eye on the dog and go to the vets if you're still worried.

hay,
dark dried blood i would speak to the vet,
fresh red blood could be her straining or even a sign of worms
