Did you use a crate, or a crate and a playpen?

I'm just wondering what people used with their pups.

My instinct is that a playpen as well as a crate would be good for those times when I am unable to fully supervise while in the room, rather than risk the crate becoming associated with being left a lone. What do the experts think?

Well I'm no expert but I use a crate for the kitchen where puppy sleeps and a pen for the living room.

We picked puppy up yesterday and I take care of my nieces who are 2 and 4.

My sister is for baby number 3 and is quitting work in 4 weeks but until then I need to keep a safe distance between puppy and children. Lots is chew toys and stuffed kongs help puppy settle in crate.

As I say no expert but just what works for me xx

Just a crate here but she only goes in it when we are both out (about an hour a day) when one of us is home she is free to wander, tends to stay in the living room I haven't found I can't get on with anything as long as I keep popping a head round the door to check on things. Nothing she can hurt herself on is visable and chewing well that's par for the course and just makes the room looked lived in (she isn't too bad really). lol

I use both crates and p;ay pens for my dogs.

Big but I have two 31/2 month old Lakeland terruers here and the girl Lakeland has been able to get out of her Crift play pen since she was 12 weeks old.

She just climbs up it like a ladder and over the top. I had a Lakie who would do the same so put in a folding playpen that was higher, he climed out of that until he got too heavy and it tipped over and he got splat from the other panels as they closed over.

So for safety I would always go for a crate

Neither, as I do not have room for even the smallest crate.

I've had a dog in my life for around 30 yrs. I never used any crates (still haven't) or pens until 3yrs ago when I got my min pin puppy and used my airline kennel. But only to keep her safe if I was out for a while on account of her being SO tiny! I mean hamster sized!

Not for any sort of behaviour correction etc.

Never used either for Ollie or Dillon baby gate or expanding trellis across kitchen doorway if I need to separate other than that they have had the run of downstairs day or night when in or out.
I am very good at puppy proofing.
