Behaviour Adjustment Training (BAT) for fear and aggression

Hi there

Thought some of you might be interested in our upcoming Behaviour Adjustment Training (BAT) 2 day course with Grisha Stewart, for fear aggressive dogs (other dogs and humans) as well as for 'bullies'. The course is suitable for canine professionals as well as ordinary dog owners.

All enquiries via website or by phone

Seminar details:

The weekend will consist of two days of talks, discussion and presentations. It will also be very hands-on with a number of practical demonstrations. Delegates will participate in group breakout sessions and will be asked to devise training plans for different case studies. Q&A sessions with Grisha will also be included.

The seminar will provide participants with the theory and practical skills needed to use BAT, with their own dogs or in a professional setting.

Please note that the only dogs allowed to attend the seminar will be those pre-arranged to take part in the demonstrations by OABC. Unfortunately, there are no facilities and insufficient room to include delegates' dogs

Venue Ramsden Memorial Hall, High Street, Ramsden, Oxfordshire, OX7 3AU

Thats VERY expensive.

It seems like there is only one person running the organisation----is that right or are there more not on the website?

There`s a web page explaining BAT
http://ahimsadogtraining.com/blog/bat/

It seems to be a desensitisation process.
Which is great.
But I`d want to see basic training to strengthen the dog / handler bond added.
And also a look at how to increase the dog`s confidence - greater socialisation, rewarding for calm.
But I imagine this may be covered in the seminar?

It`s what my trainer told me to do with Daisy so it`s not really new. But nice to see positive methods in the current sea of quick fix merchants.

Apologies for the delay in replying.

Rune, the reason for the price is:
The cost of bringing Grisha over from the States (the creator of BAT); it's a full-on 2 day course; the venue cost, event insurance cost etc; weeks/months of preparations; four stooge dogs with four experienced handlers (from Blue Cross, APDT and APBC respectively) and 4 owners with reactive dogs (that all have had to be be assessed), freshly cooked lunches, snacks and refreshments all home made; and a team of volunteers to oversee it all.

The OABC is, at the moment, me, some volunteers and a couple of floating associates (one equine) which I'm hoping to officially bring on board soon. Hope that clarifies things

Grisha who is running the seminar/course is the owner of Ahimsa Dog Training (the link you posted).

Yes, the points you raised are all covered in the seminar. The advantage of BAT is that you the skills can be taught to dog owners immediately, and they can work on the problem unassisted as they go along-as opposed to having loads of D and CC sessions with a stooge.

There is certainly a need for someone to promote this sort of non-aversive work on aggression.
I think it could be made more accessible though. I find the jargon a bit un-necesary - the method is refreshingly straightforward after all - but that could just be my personal beef.
A booklet would be good?

That was so refreshing too watch.

Dog comfortable and happy with the training and not fearful looking because of being worried about being zapped when it reacted to something that to him was fearful.

Thats the sort of training I like too see.
