No you are right cc, but she also introduced a puppy called Ellie last year if you check her threads, seems odd to want a big dog when 2 have gone missing already??? that's why I asked really as I feel maybe her family are right to dissuade her from getting a hard to rehome dog if she seems to lose them easily??? So Sorry if I am wrong Jadey.

I'm currently on my phone so I will reply to the posts when I'm on my laptop tonight however wanted to mention about Milo and Ellie!

Ellie was my old housemates puppy who I was helping with when she ended up becoming mine due to the fact my old housemate turned out to be a psycho (knew her from school) she just upped and left claiming she was going to commit suicide and when the police found her turns out she was just attention seeking staying at a friends (more reasons why I call her a psycho but won't go into it now). When she came back decided she wanted nothing to do with Ellie and so I ended up with her. I couldn't afford to jeep two dogs at the time so I rehomed her to someone who already has working Patterdales I'm still in touch with the guy and Ellie is doing really well.

Long story with Milo but I had to move in with my grandma who has a da dog so Milo couldn't come with me so my ex was looking after him for a few weeks until I sorted something out. Next thing ex sends me message saying Milo died long story short he wasn't dead turns put he sold him to someone on a really rough council estate in Preston. They're reasons why I couldn't go through police to get him back and why I've now tried contacting his friends to find out where he is but no one will tell me. My ex is a very bad person (big mistake on my part obviously) and he knows where some family members live and I don't want to involve them and he would get them involved.

I have spoken to a friend of a friend who is trying to locate him for me. I don't want anyone to think I've given up on him I haven't! He'll be two in two weeks

Just thought I'd explain that as I don't want people thinking I buy a dog and get rid when I split up with someone because that's not the case at all, I would give every penny I own to have Milo back!

Well, this is all so familiar to me. When Sid (hubby) and I got our first house (many moons ago), the first thing we wanted was a dog of our own. We both love large breeds and we ended up getting a Rottie and a GSD.

Everyone thought we were nuts and we also got the 'what are you thinking of' and they are devil/dangerous dogs etc etc. But, we had researched the breeds we liked and thought long and heavily before going ahead.

To make everyone eat there words I decided the best thing to do was ensure they were very well socialized, well trained and good ambassadors for their breeds. I took both of them every week to training and ended up not only doing obedience work, but agility and working trials training too.

At the time we lived in a small village and everyone knew me as I am only 5ft 2" and always had these two whacking big lumps on the end of the lead, but also I was known for having two very well behaved lumps! In fact people used to say stuff like 'I'll give you mine to train' or 'mine show me up when I see how good yours are' etc.

Once our families both actually got know both breeds, they too had to admit they were wrong.

As long as you have done your home-work and you know what to expect from your chosen breed in terms of size, temperament, specialist requirements etc - then I say go ahead. Be a good owner, socialize and train your dog thoroughly and hopefully your family will come around. xx
