Staffie bitch in first season and her vulva is massive

Hi I am the proud owner of a 8 month old pure blue staffy bitch and she is in her first season and her vulva has swollen that much I am unsure if this is normal please help I could really do with some input to put me at ease as this is an important time for her. Her name is rosee and I can podt pics at request. This is my first post and would like to say hi

It is quite normal for a bitches vulva to swell during a season some more than others.

Posting a picture would be best. Like the others mentioned, swelling is normal, but if her vulva is as massive as you describe then maybe a vet visit is warranted.

ditto to what Nippy said regarding my CKCS's first season! Lordy I couldn't believe it and was told it wasn't uncommon for the breed.

That is a perfect description of what Pereg's vulva looked like during her first [and only] season and it seemed to stay like for so long that l I thought it was permanent but of course it eventually went down and is now very tiny!

I knew it was not unusual but on a couple of occasions I was asked if there was something wrong with "her rear end"!

Three months later she was spayed so I never had that problem again.

Hi and welcome to Dogsey Yes, completely normal, and suggest you keep her indoors during this phase cos you'll have every dog in the neighbourhood after her if you don't. It will return to normal in a week or so, don't worry.

Errr not necessarily I currently have 3 bitches in season that are now on week 4, 28 days is the norm from start to finish, mine are clearly taking their time this season but a week is far too short a time to keep her away from others.
