Hydranga (sp)

Should I plant it in a container or straight into the ground?

lot depends on what type of soil you have, wether its acidic or alkaline. Before you make any decisions do your neighbours have them , rhodedendrons or azaleas in their gardens if they have you will be fine if not it will be a pot and a trip to the garden center will be needed to get the correct compost

Also remember that they grow quite big. Growing in a container will restrict the size.

Well, the neighbours don't have them. I know I need special soil to get it to remain blue, I would love for it to stay blue. I did have a Rhododendran (sp?) But it was never happy, it committed suicide. Hope that isn't a bad sign......

To make sure it stays blue you need to add aluminium sulphate to the soil.
They like morning sun and afternoon shade in well drained soil.
We will need to see some pics

If your rhodie committed suicide then I would put it in a pot and feed it with Aluminium Sulphate

I have two, pink and blue, which are planted in the ground. Our soil is quite acidic so when they flower they are very vibrant.

No after pic I am afraid , puppy decided to play tug with it, with Thunder. I am looking for a replacement of the same size and colour, but they only had pink ones when I went back.
