Dandruff!?

When I got my newest addition 4 weeks ago from serbia I noticed she had some dandruff on the ends of her long fur, I thought it was from when her fosterers bathed her the day before I got her so left it at that, this past week iv noticed my other dog has all of a sudden started with it really bad, something she has never had. I bathed them both last night and gave them a good scrub, once they had dried off it appeared all the scurffyness had gone from their skin, but this morning, they have some dandruff again.. now im not sure if its mites or what? Im awaiting my advantage flea treatment to come through the post but what else could it be? They both eat wainwrights, but my other dog has always eaten this, so cant say its a poor diet. :/

There is a mite Cheyletiella also known as walking dandruff. Could it be this?

Hi Jess, what a pain but it does sound as though it could be Cheyletiella at it looks just like dandruff and is very contagious to dogs, cats and humans. Unfortunately carpets and soft furnishings will also need to be treated. I don't believe Advocate kills this mite but a phone call to your vet will confirm this or better still phone Bayer's Customer Service department (who make Advocate). They were very helpful when I phoned and asked them a question.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

My other dog is really bad but when looking at my newer one, im wondering if what she has now is the flakes from eva.. iv tried looking at her skin but it appears normal but when looking at evas she seems very flaky. Wondering whether to try yumega?

I agree with the other posters, and would suspect cheyletiella.
Under magnification you can see it moving. I would seek professional advice.

Update- evas had sardines in sunflower oil with her morning dinner yesterday and today. The dandruff is nowhere near as bad so iv been and bought her some yumega to try. If its still no better ill take her to the vets. Desire doesn't seem to have any at all now so I reckon what she had when she first came was probably through poor diet and what iv seen during the last week is just flakes from Eva x
