I'll have to google him, sounds interesting. Shaun actually lived with a wolf pack, ending up as the alpha male. He ate what they ate, but cunningly, so he didn't have to eat raw kill, he would hide a piece of cooked liver inside the kill and eat it. Still pretty gross, the smell must have been indescribable. So he had the evidence right under his own eyes that wolves will eat the stomach and contents of their herbivorous kill.

Billinghurst actually says that unless you do raw feeding correctly, then it is better to stick to the dreaded kibble. I am not enough of an expert to know whether I can agree with this or not, I think in principle I have got to say I don't, so all right then, I agree it is better to feed raw meat and bones than it is to feed kibble or processed dog food.

Group hug time !! I wish I knew how to do all this little smiley thingeys, and winks.

I think you must be using the quick reply button instead of the reply button? When you use the "reply" button you get all the little smileys coming up on the r/h side! Lol! I always need those!!!! When you go in with guns blazing, but add a little smiley, they get the message you're not meaning to be as aggressive as you sound! Not that you did in any way, not to me anyhow!

I think we've all learned a great deal from this thread, for which I am most grateful coz Georgie will now have a more interesting and I hope a happier life, coz he just doesn't seem interested in his normal food at the moment, but when presented with his lamb shank on Christmas Day, well, that look said it all to me really!!!

None taken The great thing about Raw feeding is that everyone modifies it for themselves, to what suits them and their dogs. So one person may feed more pork or veg than another or give extra supplements, etc the list is endless, so what works for one Barfer might not suit the next, that's why barf is great

Thanks for the tip re the smiley thingeys! I am sure my posts do come across rather aggressively, and it is not meant, so please no-one ever take offence, I'm just a crinkly old bat who has forgotten how to socialise amongst her own kind, much preferring horses and especially dogs !! Present company accepted of course.

Now, I must remember to press the "Go Advanced" button !

Hope it works guys !

Having tried feeding raw for several days, i've decided I dont have the necessary space to store all the meat. The garage is used as a workshop for cars and there definately isnt room for a freezer in there!

Even Jed is now eating raw stuff without hesitation and looks at me for more whereas yesterday he didnt want anything to do with it! I tried giving it frozen to Flynn but he's so unbelievably greedy that most if it went down unchewed and still frozen solid! I'm a bit concerned that he's going to get into a situation because he's such a gulper.

I think i'll just give it them as a regular treat but i'll remember about missing out a kibble meal!

My parents have a chest freezer in their garage so if I can convince them to free up some space then i'll make a full conversion! It's definately something I want to convert to but it isnt really feasible at the mo.

Thanks for all the advice, it's been very valuable.

I wanted to get a small freezer to store stuff in for the dogs, and I still haven't got the length of getting one. Most of what I buy is from the supermarket and butchers on a week to week basis and is stored along with our stuff in the freezer at the bottom of our fridge. It's probably a bit more expensive than bulk buying from the likes of Landywoods (which we don't have here anyway) but it is possible to do it without the additional freezer.

Leanne: let's hope your parents are convinced to help you! Well done for trying, I can quite understand your predicament. I had one of those small larder freezers that go under your worktops in the kitchen in my husband's picture framing workshop so that Hal's meat was kept separate from our's. Chicken wings bought in bulk from the market might not have been quite so hygenically handled than our meat from Waitrose, so I was lucky enough to be able to store separately. Space was often a problem though, particularly after a bulk order from Landywoods or Albion, and Hal's food would encroach sometimes on our freezer and we had one hysterical occasion when OH barbecued the dog's chicken thigs by mistake ... we were all perfectly OK, so I just kept quiet !!

Evie: Landywoods have an online website - don't they deliver to your area? I thought, like Albion, they would deliver anywhere? Ah right, I see from your details that you live in Northern Ireland, maybe they don't deliver over there.

Right, I have read this thread with great interest but want to make sure I understand, and may need some help.

My dogs 31/2 year dobe 16 week dobe pup. Both are on a mix of Arden Grange and Beta(Yes I know it's crap but thats another story ) respectively plus landywoods meat.
1)I didn't know feeding kibble and raw at the same time was bad so will cut that out (though will have to use up what I've got).

2) I had alot of chicken carcasses for adult but although he loved them found small piles of vomit in the morning. Fine on chicken wings and portions.

Questions....
1)Pup is of a slim build due to her breeding lines and needs to maintain her weight but has sensitive stomach (hence Beta) she has had wings but they made her poo loose again. Can she just have the Landywoods meat on its own for now and chew on the marrowbones lying around everywhere? Was thinking of giving raw for breakfast and dinner and kibble for lunch? If so 1lb of meat per meal? She is on approx 11/2 lb of meat per day.

2)Adult dog is prone to putting on weight but eats anything. He is on 1lb of meat per day mixed with AG. Should I give him normal adult amount of kibble for dinner and 1lb of meat for breakfast?

3) Will they be okay on just Landywoods meat(and cheap meat scraps/bones from butcher etc)?
I can't afford to throw a bin full of biscuit away so will have to use it up first.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Also to the person who said that some butchers are tight how right you are! Anyone would think I was asking for a pot of gold, my butcher (miserable git) makes me feel like a miser! I think I will check to see if there is a local abbatoir.

Karen
P.S My dogs are in stunning condition on the mix, can someone explain exactly why it is not a good idea? Won't be buying any more kibble but would like to know the reasoning. x
