well after indie nearly strangelling herself the other day she no longer wears a collar indoors when we r out. if we r there she usually has it put back on cos we can oversee what shes doing.

i dont think u realise the dangers of collars til it happens to you

well max isnt in a crate and is an only dog so i kind of thought he is quite safe with it on. he mainly lies on the sofa while i am out. we know this due to the big dent and heat in spot on sofa!

Mine both wear collars all the time -but they are quite snug -with the comings and goings of the kids the doors are always opening and so we need something to grab hold of -If I see a dog in the street - I will aproach one with a collar but I'm more wary of one without

My dog had an accident a couple of months back, they were with my sister while I was working. They were playing and Hoofa got his jaw stuck in Cleo's collar, they both panicked and couldn't get free, the clip was in his mouth so my sis couldn't just undo it. Apparently poor Cleo actually pooed herself!

These days I have them on when we have guests round but apart from that they are naked

Mine wear collars and tags at all times. I just can't risk them not wearing them - if someone opened my gate, or front door, they could be off with no ID and only Dharma is chipped so far. The reason there's a law for collars and tags when out on walks is so that your dog can be reunited with you should it become lost or be in an accident. No dog has 100% recall, and it's a risk I won't take - I've seen what they do to dogs in pounds when they can't find their owners!

Edited to add: I do have to put up with the downside of them playing and grabbing each other's collars, so they wear full fabric martingales

Believe me Woody would never run away! He's such a mummys boy! Trust me on this one. He doesn't need 100% recall cos he spends most of the time right by my side or walking so close behind me he stands on the back of my boots! Very annoying by the way! He's nearly 10 now and has developed arthritis in his elbows, this dog can go no where at speed. Apart from dinner time of course!

It might be a risk you're willing to take, and it's not my place to tell you otherwise. It's not however a risk I will take with my dogs.

That's fair enough. But if I thought it was a risk I wouldn't be doing it in the first place!
