why does it hurt that much then on your ankle

It's because there's so little spare flesh there. Closer to the bone is always so much more painful. The fleshy parts, e.g. tops of your arms, are much less painful

It does hurt, but then afterwards, you forget the pain, and only remember next time you are in the chair
