They will tolerate a head collar a damn sight better than an electric shock collar!!

I think it is rather disgusting that you are trying to peddle electric shock collars in an unrelated topic, and I can now see why so many of our members are calling on something to be done about you 'promoting' them in this manner.

I have been reviewing the situation since these complaints have been made, and since no-one, in the last thread I posted, was able to demonstrate that electric shock collars are not what many experts believe - dog abuse - we have decided that the use/recommendation of electric shock collars will not be permitted in threads, bar the following exception...

We'll still allow debate and discussion of electric shock collars but only in threads specifically discussing them. (i.e. when mentioned in the first post of a thread).

We believe this is the fairest option where we're not censoring opinion (discussion is still allowed, pro or against, in the relevant threads) yet standing by our ethics - by not allowing unsuspecting and often novice users to be sucked into what is generally considered to be dog abuse.

An official announcement will be made later.

So Azz your going to make this my way or the highway!

Generally we believe education, not dictatorships are best all round

So this was a load of rubbish then?

Seeing as I use e collars to train I don't see why you shouldn't have them mentioned in other threads about training?

This is like saying we should only talk about clickers in clicker threads.

What about pager and spray collars?

Adam

This isn't a thread about loose lead training though. It's a thread about headcollars and the different designs available. No where did the OP ask for any alterntives for loose lead walking. If I posted a thread asking which clicker was best to use then there's no need for people to start posting about some other training mechanism.

Thanks for the suggestions regarding alteratives, but I'm specifically interested in headcollars and their various designs. There are lots of threads on loose lead walking/harnesses etc so I started this one particularly to discuss the styles and fit of headcollars, rather than whether or not to use them.

So any opinions on the black dog ones? I think I like the look of the infin8. Seems to have lots of good things said about it? Also agilitywarehouse have a SWAG headcollar that looks comfy

Also seen some different designs - the newtrix one, which looks good but I can't see anywhere that sells it. and sporn do one that looks alot like a canny collar, again I can't find a stockist. Its just interesting to look at all the different styles. There are more variations than I first thought!

Better still put the collar on Adam and pass me the remote!

Ok, perhaps that is a little harsh.

No, it's fair comment, I think there'd be quite a queue

As to Adam's comment:

then, ermm.... well yeah.... stick to the topic!
If someone is asking about how to use a screwdriver, simple etiquette dictates that you don't jump in and start telling them how to use a cordless drill!

WALLAROO -

I looked at the Swag collar. It seems to work very much like the GenCon and the Canny Collar - in that it tightens around the dog's muzzle and head when they pull. In other words: it may be really uncomfortable for your dog

Also, and this is just in my experience, the headcollars that have the lead attached at the back just do not work as well, because eventually the dog learns to lean in to them and pull anyway. That's the problem I had with the Canny Collar.

I would seriously recommend the Dogmatic - it doesn't tighten, it doesn't hurt the dog, and it attaches at the front so you really do have almost total control.
