I board her and I had heard the noise the dog was making, at NO time did either Sue or I ever consider she had LP, yet her Vet of over 30yrs did! They were willing to operate too!! Fortunately she asked for a referal to Bristol University and she was told she did NOT have LP at all, but a couple of flaps in the dogs throat that all dogs have had turned inside out and were "flapping" causing the problem. LP is a specialist thing ONLY, diagnosing with a GA is incredibly risky on an animal that is slowly suffercating, it should be left only to the specialists.

Im not doubting you Ailsa in the slightest but was thinking more about your recent thread of how well Biff was, if he doeas have LP iw will make him feel rotton and could explain some of his symptoms, maybe not of course but I wanted to mention it anyway. I know you think the world of him and would never do anything that was not in his best interest.
The trouble about me saying how well Biff was is that it is all relative. I am realising this now. When I say is Biff is well at the moment (in the last month or two) it means he initiates play with the others maybe twice a week...that play lasts about 2-5 minutes, before he has to lie down and lick his feet/front legs. It means he has only been sick once in the week and so only missed one painkiller...and that he has eaten well (but only his chicken and pasta, he gets the runs and throws up if he eats anything else) and pottered around the house, not complaining too much when he lies down.

I think he has been in decline for so long now...and it has all been so gradual that we haven't seen...or perhaps wanted to see, just how bad he has got. The vet was chuffed with him, a month or so ago when we last took him (maybe 2 months..)but that was because he had kept weight on and hadn't had a mjor tummy upset since his last visit (plus his joints weren't as bad as she thought they may be)...he was having a good day though.

I knew he was bad in my heart of hearts...but I think I didn't and don't want to admit to it. I don't want to lose him.

Just had a check back...the last time he was at the vets was around the 8th April. An indicator of how he has been is that we were given 30 rimadyl for him then...they ran out yesterday, he should have one a day. They have lasted so long as he can't have them on the days he vomits or his poos aren't properly formed....he can only have them when his tummy is 100%. Mind you looking on the bright side, they gave us another 30 today. Bless him

Thanks YS. I think he has been old and ill for so long that he would just be old and ill forever, if you see what I mean?

Just wanted to say so sorry to hear Biff's Plight, I totally emapthise with you as I have a Leo with LP and a leaky heart valve and have the same tormenting worries with regards to surgery and my boy not being strong enough to withstand a GA never mind the chance of pneumonia post surgery, his LP has taken a turn for the worse in the cooler months of this year and so I dread the summer coming and get so worried when the weather begins to warm up.

My thoughts are with you & Biff

So sorry to hear that the prognosis for Biffters was not good, Ailsa. I know you were expecting to hear that, but it doesn't make it any easier to bear.

I hope the ABs make a difference, and don't upset his tum too much.

Keep us posted, honey, you are never far away from my thoughts......

I'm just catching up with this thread now.
Ailsa, I know you will do the very best and make the right choices for Biff. But that still doesn't make them easy choices to make for you and the family. {{{Hugs}}} to you all. xxx
