Because at Christmas your routine goes completely to pot and it can be very hectic. Even more so for those inexperienced with pups. Imagine how much hard work it is in those first few weeks with a pup, then add Xmas on top of that and hopefully you'll get what I mean. Obviously not everyone has a hectic Christmas, but the majority will. That would be taken into consideration, obviously.

I know sometimes I wonder why we bother with Christmas, it's all about buying each other crap these days. Think of the money everyone would save!

I think they might suffer like this sometimes, but not all of us enjoy christmas and have lots of folk in. I hate it, and all we do is walk the dogs and be totally antisocial!!!

Yes i suppose each house is different and like i mentioned in another post....it's not only christmas we have to think about, there are loads of other festivals at different times of year that can be just as busy.

Never had a pup - but I did get my first rehomed dog in February! I walked into their house to be greeted with a cream carpet, a leather suite and a glass-topped coffee table - under which was hiding a very young, very worried GSD. A christmas pressie if ever I saw one. That was 40 years ago. Do rescues still get the `surge` 6 weeks after Christmas? It used to be February (the kids wanted a dog) and August (going on holiday).

Yes, sadly.

When I took Isla for her Cardio appointment (she got the all clear thankfully! ) there was a lady in with a tiny JRT pup for her second injections. The receptionists mentioned bringing the dog back for spaying at 6 months (don't really agree with it being so early, but kept schtum!) and the lady said "oh we were wanting a litter out of her before we spayed her". The receptionists did their absolute best to educate whilst trying not to scare the living daylights out of this woman, but you could tell it went in one ear and out the other.

Some things never change, sadly, and this includes the Christmas pressie rush for puppies.
