I hate having them, but as a Student Nurse I have seen them done too which I think makes it worse!
Hopefully though in a few years you won't have to go to the Nurse anymore as they're working on a test you can do yourself. Actually I think that might be even worse!
make sure you book your appointment dont put it of any longer

Just wondered what is the average length of time that you should have regular smears - I know our health authority says every 3 years but some say every 5 years.

i have mine every 6mths cos they keep finding things so each time i have to have a biopsy so im hoping tomorrow that when i do get my results that it will be clear

Normal recall is every three yrs -if there are any changes in cells then its six months -this doesn't nessicarily (sp) mean pre-cancerous cells it can be infection that needs to be monitered ,sometimes without treatment
They have recently changed the smear kits to a brush type thing rather than a spatula type thing ..far more comfortable by all accounts ( not had mine yet either )
