A year on and Max has been unwell. A rare thyroid problem leading to low calcium levels. He was slowing down a bit which we initially thought might be him getting a bit more mature.

But.....when he sometimes fell over. struggled to get up and whimpered........that is hard to take.

He is now on calcichew tablets and a fairly strong dose of a vitamin D medication and seems to be back to his lively old self. Galloping about to round up imaginary birds and squirrels.

They really are such a worry. I swear I worry as much as when my kids were little and had mystery illnesses.

I hope the meds work for Max and he stays his usual self for a long, long time x

I have a video of one of his episodes. I'd like to post it here - not for sympathy but just so others might recognise the symptoms in case it happens to their pet.

But I don't how to or even if it is possible.

Now that is well beyond me. I've seen some that are links to youtube videos so maybe that's how, but I wouldn't put too much store by what I say. I am useless at posting photos and even worse with videos

Sorry to say I can't help much either but I know what you are feeling with regard to Max. It's hard to accept when your once active dog starts to slow down, stumble, and has a problem getting up and they look at you like "Why can't I get up?"


I hope his medication continues to help him. We have similar problems with Casey, he's on five different tablets and in the last few weeks the vet has added Tramadol as a pain killer which seems to be working.

I have developed cataracts so con't drive until that gets fixed.
So Max had his maiden vovage on a bus today. He was absolutely fine.

We went to the vet. His calcium levels are fine now.

On the bus:

Nervous but well behaved. And yes, he was on his lead...
