Yes, thats the total I have to pay...£80 to the vet and £50 to the BVA.

I wanted to go to this particular vet for a reason, my good luck that their prices are so reasonable, as hubby tells me we will be spending about £40 of his hard earned money to get there

It is hard to put a price (well - within reason) to seeing a vet you trust!

Hope it goes well

I've just had one of mine done but don't know the cost yet as they hadn't updated the computer so we left without having to pay - I'll get back to you on this one but Im expecting @ £350 for hips/elbows.

My vet charges about £130 in total and uses a reversable anaestetic rather that a General. Depends on the weight of the dog as well.

Slight change of plan

I've been worrying myself sick about going to Lincolnshire for this, it's over 100 miles and 2 hours each way on a good day. It's not the journey there that worries me, but I've been worrying about coming back...I want to get Hen home safe and sound as quickly as possible, but what if he has a reaction? What if he has a reaction when I'm half way home and an hour between vets? What if I get stuck in traffic, he has a reaction and I can't get to any vets in time?

I know I'm probably over-reacting but I just can't take the risk, I would never forgive myself so...when Hen went for his immunotherapy jab today I asked his vet about doing the scoring. He insists on knocking them out but he said it would be a quick GA, he'd be back so much quicker. As much as I trust the vet in Lincolnshire I really trust this one too, he was so good when Leon was dying and he worked miracles on Hen when he got attacked, I just feel that bit safer that we are only up the road and they have his full medical history...just incase

They are arranging to send me a quotation, I'm under no illusion that it is going to be far more expensive than the Lincolnshire practice but I won't be using all that petrol and I won't be driving for 4 hours of the day. Clive and I spoke about it this evening, he said I am to go with whichever feels better to me but if he were to choose he would go with our vets here.

I'll update when I get the price, just so we can compare.

My bill has just come through, £447! That was everything included. The xrays were done on 4th Jan and they were assessed on 13th, quite quick I thought.

Crikey..that is a lot of money...at least they didn't keep you hanging on for the results. Good news I hope?

It is not the vet that gives you the results but the KC/BVA panel.

How quick you get them depends on a) how quickly your vet sends them off to the panel and b) the relationship between the date of your x rays and the date of the panel meeting.

Sometimes your x rays just miss a panel meeting, so you have to wait for another 6 weeks or so.

Yes, I've had that happen before, had some back really quickly and chased others up beacuse I hadn't received them weeks later..it's the luck of the draw I suppose

Not bad but uneven, and clear elbows. Exactly the breed mean average for hips. Still, she's a very athletic girl and can clear an extra tall baby gate from a sit with no probs, just like a gazelle!

I agree about using a vet you trust. The vet I try to see at the practice is a cardio specialist. He did give me 10% off the bill and she came bouncing out the surgery like she'd never had a G.A. so he never overdoes it. I used to take mine somewhere else for hip/elbows, they used sedation but by the time I'd done 120 mile round trip, lost a days pay, wear & tear & fuel on the car & time etc I probably wasn't too much out of pocket paying my vet what I did. I should've got her done earlier before the VAT & BVA prices went up!
