C3D, I hope your lives get back to 'normal' as soon as possible xxx

Both my sisters live in Houston, and I worry like hell about them. I haven't spoken to either of them yet, but I can imagine that it's chaos over there.

Thanks Wolfie and Lucky Star for your kindness.

Still I have no word from my husband but I'm sure he is doing what needs to be done. Mississippi has the poorest population and the majority of the media focus is on New Orleans.

~~SIGH~~ People are people and they all need help.

Texas, Oklahoma and other states have opened their hearts and doors to the hurricane victims.

I hope to hear from my Mike sometime this week. His two brothers are helping in the Gulf states too.....somewhere.

I'll keep you posted.

Hi Minihaha and thanks!

There are just so many people who need to be helped.
There are so many animals that need to be helped too.

One by one I pray, as does the rest of the world, they all get the help they need.

This morning on the news, it showed a man being air lifted to safety and he was waving goodbye to his dog. I don't know about any of you but I could never leave my pet to die, they would have to either take us both or none of us.

That has upset me all day.

I know that us humans have to be saved first but how could he leave his faithful companion to die.

I'm the same as you Ian -I would never leave my pets behind - ever.

All life is sacred dosen't matter what form it takes.

There are a few people in America who have started to email Fox news to put pressure on them to start giving more air coverage of all these people being forced to abandon their pets.

There are animal charities going in and trying their best to rescue these animals but the job is pretty over whelming and they need funds and also collars, beds, blankets food etc.

I was told a story today about a vet who is refusing to leave his animals behind - he was told to euthanize them all and then he would be rescued but he refused - so they are air dropping cat and dog food for him.
please if any-one can help please donate it will help so much - make sure you donate to the charities that are helping both the animals and the people.

Hi Lucky Star and everyone else.

I am sooo happy to say that I got a phone call from someone in Mississippi with a message from my husband. He is doing OK and hopes to phone me later in the week and I should not worry.

~~Hmmmm. NOW he tells me! After nearly all my fingernails are gone! LOL!~~

On the television here they showed there are dogs in trees....stranded. Dogs on cars. Dogs on porches and roofs. There was a television reporter who was giving a dog that was stranded some water. The animals that are loose are drinking that putrid water and probably will get diarrhea and may die because of it.

They said that the humane society and other organizations are catching pets and taking them to safety. They caught 300+ just yesterday! Cats, dogs, a ferret. some birds and a seal.

On the TV they showed one lady in New Orleans who was staying in her home and her husband and her son were going out in a small boat every day and rescuing any dogs they could find and bringing them back to their home. She was tossing food to a neighbours dog. I think they are afraid of him but still feed him.

The National Guard took a family to their flooded home so they could get their 4 cats out. One cat was missing but the other three are fine. So many people are concerned for the pets and animals in general.

One emergency medicine specialist had the grand idea to make a mobile hospital so the facilities can be brought to patients in case of disaster. With govt. funding a million dollar facility was built in a tractor trailer. Teams of specialists went down with this state of the art medical marvel.....thoracic surgeons, ortheopedic surgeons, emergency medicine physicians and other specialists. They arrived in the hurricane ravaged area and who was their first patient? A labrador retriever puppy with a hurt leg! They fixed his leg and his family was very thankful!

There are so many nice stories like this amid the horror and tragedy.

It's all so awful. There was a story on CNN today about a little boy who was bording one of the evacuation busses and a policeman took his puppy out of his arms and made him leave it behind - how sad is that. I couldn't leave Rocco behind, he's one of us. I would be one of those people stuck on my roof.

Actually I shouldn't joke - because firstly it's not funny and secondly we're expecting a hurricane on friday morning at 9am. It's so funny how they give you a time - like it's a guest coming for dinner!

We've shut all of our storm shutters already because we live on top of the highest hill in Bermuda and although we have a beautiful view, it leaves us very exposed and the winds are picking up already. Not looking forward to it. Last time we had no power, running water, phone etc for 10 days. On the upside, I've just booked flights to come to the UK next wednesday so at least I might escape some of the aftermath if it does hit. Hopefully it will change course - cross your fingers and paws!
