Probably enjoying having his own David Beckham

Sorry Em, I do know how you are feeling and it's not nice.
Wish I was close enough to pop in and make you a cuppa.

Oh dear, sorry to hear this Pidge wishing you a speedy recovery. I had to spend a morning in the plaster room last week on my placement and as I had never had a cast on before they plastered my arm and made me work like that for the morning so I could understand what the children in plaster go through! It drove me mad and I was very glad to be rid of it! (Personally I think they just get their kicks from torturing students ) Can you arrange meals on wheels for a few weeks?

Oh Em - I am so sorry to hear this.
If it is ruptured or even pre-ruptured the hospital will go through the pro's and con's of treatment, be it surgical or conservative.
Even if it is surgically repaired it is still about the same period in plaster which is about 12 weeks I think and then physiotherapy afterwards.
These days they do not necessarily surgically repair them - most doctors these days seem to opt for non-operative treatment.

so fingers crossed the scan brings good news tomorrow.

If you do have to go back into plaster I know there is something you can buy to put over the plaster to enable you to be able to wash. Ask the plaster technicians about it - they should be able to give you information about where you can get one. If they don't let me know and I will find out for you.

xx

I'd swap an arm for a leg ANY DAY. My whole upper body and left leg are in agony. Walking on crutches is impossible! I have total sympathy for anyone who has to go through this.

Thank you so much! What is pre-ruptured? And yes, if it's in plaster I'll be in touch for sure, although a Brabantia bin liner can work wonders ;o)

There is no pain anymore, just soreness and when he examined me my tendon was moving, it was just really painful so I hope to God I just puled it, or something. Either way I want/need out of this plaster!

Thanks dude xx

Well I have just had a bath and I have to say it was AMAZING! The best bath ever I'm sure ;o) It really helped to ease my aching muscles and was surprisingly easy to get in and out of, although there was a lot of strategic planning in advance (bless my geeky/techy husband).

I'm now sat in bed waiting for a fish and chip supper because lunch didn't happen and we spent too long on the bath to cook.

I'm nervous about tomorrow, but also quietly confident and I do have great instincts so still keep em crossed and I'll update when I'm back xx

You try washing, whilst balancing one leg out of the bath, wrapped in a Brabantia bin liner!!

Whatever else do you mean?

I'm back from hospital and the cast is off. I have two tears in my tendon and a sprained calf which will still need crutches and physio for a few weeks but the cast is off!! Hooray!

One of my tears is 2mm, which is only 3mm off a rupture so how lucky am I!

We were there for 6 hours! At £1 an hour for parking (plus the dog walker fee as Woody needed rescuing) did not make for a fun morning, but at least I got the result I wanted.

Nippy, would you believe one of the specialists asked if I was a Beckham fan!! Grrrr!! ;o)

Funny, if you'd have said to start with that you'd torn your tendon and sprainder your calf, I'd be saying 'oh how awful', but in comparison to completely rupturing your achilles, it doesn't sound nearly so bad!

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery - now the lighter evenings are coming you don't want to miss out on the long walks to the pub
