Lynn

All too often those at the to set a work target that can't be met, be it for job time or whatever. i had this with BT when I worked for them It was ok until privatisation then all hell let loose.

Let me give you an example

before privatisation to put in an extn phone in home/office time allowed when arrived on site 3.5 hours.
After privatisation same job 1.5 hours including travelling time to site . Just getting from Bookham in Surrey to say Wimbledon could easily take up that 1.5 hrs with no time left to do the work.

The next thing was you were in trouble for not turning up on an am or pm appointment.

This is what made me leave the company on early retirement plan at the time, the pressure made me ill.

Sue will tell you I went home with a megrain every night and often had to stop driving to be sick. I even gave up lunch breaks to try and meet targets and still got in trouble.
Best move we ever made was buying our own business

Dreadful practices now Barry.
He is only doing this temporary till Christmas needs a job and some money but he needs a permanent job back in Essex so he can rent and be near his son.
He is use to targets and managing people done it most of his working life but he said unreasonable targets is totally another thing.

The more work you do for a company the even more they expect from you until it is impossible. Having now retired i didn't realise the different types of one man self employed can do.
We have had in an oven cleaner, yes they are needed for domestic or industrial cleaning . Also roof gutter clearing, We have a guy who does ours for about £60 a time and looks a very profitable line to be in. something like this

Lynn, Amazon is famed for this type of practice, there was something in the papers the other day about the delivery drivers not even getting a loo break and having to use plastic bags due to the unreasonable time targets.
I too worked in a job with targets, did well for nearly 20 years, then it was sold to a firm of venture capitalists, and everyone who stood up and said what they were doing to people was wrong ended up getting put under various pressures so they would leave. I took them to a tribunal, but they didn't let it get that far and paid me off, so I started my own business until I was of retirement age. I was the only one who actually spoke out and took the company to court, everyone else got another (less well paid job) and left, so there was no evidence about what they were doing, until I decided they weren't doing it to me. Made me ill, and it took a long time for me to even drive without panic attacks, but glad I did it. My heart goes out to people stuck in these type of jobs with no getout because they have mortgages, young families etc. It is like being in hell and having to go there everyday without respite. I really hope he gets employment with a beter type of employer. Sadly this is the why most companies operate nowadays, profit before people
Gone dark now, but sky did go a very strange colour, like when snow is due. Hopefully not though. Fire is lit, had to but the guard up as there are sparks going off, must be the wood for some reason

He needs paid employment he has been self employed painter and decorator but it would take him 3 years worth of accounts etc., to be able to rent he can't do that he is going doolally living here as it is. Plus he needs to get back to be near to Joel.
He needs to earn £18,000 at least a year and permanent wage 3 months wage slips to even be considered for private renting.
He has been told by Harlow council they can't won't help.

He could most likely but private landlords or agents working on their behalf do not much like self employed.
He has researched his market with regards to that back in Harlow and in his case it would not work out favourably.
Good idea June I am keeping a low profile at the moment he isn't so angry now but he is still rather cross and frustrated.
Best to leave him for now and not make to many suggestions he will snap out of it.

Yeah, he'll need time out to cool down, but things are only going to get even more pressurised in December, if its like that now, what will it be like nearer Christmas. I think they load the pressure on people deliberately to make them crack, then they get rid of them and more people to the guillotine.
Give him a hug when you are able, its not an easy road one bit
