I can imagine lol, but not a no no to anyone getting a pup in the cold.... and like Shona said, if the pups have arrived they have arrived.

Like all situations it's a case of careful vetting of prospective new owners.

As others have said, I think more questions would need to be asked of prospective purchasers wanting a pup around Christmas time, but I wouldn't necessarily rule it out depending on what the reasons were.

Certainly wouldn't plan for it deliberately but many lappie bitches have a winter and summer heat, and those with the summer heats are often due to go to homes around Xmas. I guess having a long w/l helps with that as families would know what to plan for and kids pressies can be dog oriented (bowls leads etc), rather than dog itself.

The thing that concerned me with this phone call was the fact I don't even have a litter advertised. If he'd bothered to look on my website he'd have known this. It struck me that he had a list of people in the area that were breeders and was rining around in the hope of getting a pup for Xmas - certainly not the sort of person I'd like to sell a pup to at any time of year!

I still don't believe I would let a pup go at Xmas, it's such a hectic time for many people (and yes I know some people don't celebrate Xmas, but those people will be in the minority rather than the majority) and although some people have 2 weeks off (how many people actually have 2 weeks off apart from construction and Teachers?) I don't think it's the best time to have a new pup in the house. Your routine will be completely shot to pieces and the pup will go from having a full house to an empty one very quickly. The only people I would let a pup go to at Xmas would be friends tbh. Don't forget the majority of the general public are clueless when it comes to dogs, not like most of the members on here.

Of course if I did have a litter at this time I would've grilled him to within an inch of his life, but even then I would've held onto the pup until after the festive period. If they still really wanted a pup they would wait, if not they'd go elsewhere. If they weren't happy to wait, they weren't good enough for one of my pups, simple.

I do understand totally what you are saying..although I have to say depending on the ages of the pups I wouldn't wait...I would also want the pup home with me over the festivities so I was in control of it's socialisation....but that's the control freak in me. For the majority of people Christmas would be a bad time...for us it worked out exceptionally well, we couldn't believe it.

This it though, the majority of people haven't had the experience you've had with pups. It would definitely depend upon the person applying and if I felt they had enough experience and knowledge then I would make the exception, but sadly all too often pups are bought for the wrong reasons at Xmas.

Oh crap, better leave it there, am gonna miss my Canine Cardiology appointment!

Bye!
