I love watercress too Meg. I sprinkle balsamic vinegar on it. Love baby spinach leaves too. Not keen on any type of lettuce much really. Least of all tasteless iceberg lettuce. They don't really 'do' lettuce here. More likely to find shredded cabbage in a salad.

I buy the bagged salads as I find I don't waste them like the big lettuces that seem to fester in my fridge and there's more variety. After seeing a snotty nose kid handle all the loose fruit and veg and actually sneezing on them my preference is to buy bagged /pre packed stuff off the top shelf anyway.

iceberg is for the texture; noisily crisp as opposed to "cloth" lettuces.

funny!

many do not understand that all you use is a mere smear. transparent almost. so they pile it on like marmalade or jam. yukk....marmite is a quintessential part of English life you see, on toast with butter.

I thought marmite was going to be banned because it's made from waste products in the brewing industry! I will try and find a link to where I read it!

My daughter will be distraught. She doesn't use it sparingly she lathers it on. She also makes marmite pasta (eeeyuk it looks greyish brown and stinks!)

I like marmite on toast. Also marmite dobbed onto cheese under the grill. But that's it.

Denmark Bans Marmite

Canada bans sale of Marmite
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...-Ovaltine.html

Canada has banned the sale of a string of iconic British foods such as Marmite, Ovaltine and Irn-Bru because they contain illegal additives, it was claimed.
Amused to read that one of the banned additives causes hyperactivity. My Jen has lived on Marmite since babyhood and spent most of her youth displaying as much activity as a FALLEN LOG!
